A terrible disease in my opinion. My dad has it. He worked hard all his life to provide a good life for his family, saving and withholding his desires of pampering himself with luxuries. And now retired, with most of the family obligations fulfilled, he can't indulge himself with what he is passionate about, food. Its really sad watching him eat those plain untasteful food while he still provides us with the best. He has been battling it for 4 years now, medications, yoga and exercises with controlled diet; still the disease is there. So heres a little more info on the disease if you care to know.

It is a disease where improper functioning of insulin causes the sugar level in the blood to increase and may cause heart problem, kidney failure, blurred vision if not treated timely. Although it is said that hereditary and genetics leads to diabetes, it is also caused by the increased production of glucose level in the blood vessels and reduced production of glucose in the body, and also caused due to infections caused by viruses. Other causes are due to Stress, obesity, increased cholesterol level, excess intake of oil and sugar, and no physical exercise.

You will probably guess it by the symptoms. Loss of weight indicates that there is a problem in the blood sugar level and functioning of insulin; Blurred vision; Frequent urination is one of major symptom that indicates diabetes; Severe hunger pain or emptiness, stress and irritation also give sign of diabetes.

You can take a good care on what you eat because controlling diet and eating right is very important for diabetic patients and their health.

  • Eat low-fat diet and eat vegetables like spinach, cucumber. They are good for controlling diabetes.
  • Eat fruits and milk products like cheese.
  • Avoid eating starchy food products as they are not easily digestible.
  • Diabetic patient should not be scared of eating sugar-rich fruits. These are safe and do not increase insulin production.
  • Take less amount of oil and avoid coffee, sugar, refined flour, alcohol.
  • Avoid eating heavy meals; eat small meals as the foods are easily digestible and are good for the health of diabetics.
  • Onion, sprouts, beans, garlic, tomatoes in the diet of diabetics low down the sugar level in the blood.
  • Avoid taking stress as it worsens the conditions.
  • Avoid eating mutton, excess salt in your meal as this will help in controlling your body weight and diabetes.
  • Avoid junk food and oily food as this will control your level of cholesterol, lowers your blood pressure level, and diabetes.
  • Avoid white bread, rice, and potatoes.
  • Eat tomatoes and vegetable salad.
